| Corrosion protection technologies for seawater pumps |
|
|
| Seawater includes a considerable amount of inorganic salt, mainly chlorides, consequently has high conductivity, causing localized corrosion of stainless steels and other passive metals. It also promotes the extensive formation of galvanic cells, providing highly corrosive environments. Ebara has been committed for many years to the development of corrosion protection technologies for seawater pumps. So far, we have developed a corrosion analysis system using boundary element method, as well as a crevice corrosion resistant overlaying alloy. In addition, we have collaborated with a seawater desalination company, SWCC in Saudi Arabia, to carry out immersion tests using actual seawater in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea. The test results are utilized for selecting optimal materials for seawater pumps operating in the Middle East. |
