Rotor dynamics test stand

The rotordynamics test stand is a unique system equipped with a proprietary measurement engine that allows the precise measurement of rotor-dynamic characteristics under various operating conditions. It can measure fluid force, etc., for a wide range of equipment, including non-contact annular seals, bearings, and impellers used in turbomachinery. Using the position and vibration control of 5-axis controlled magnetic bearings, the system allows the measurement of dynamic characteristics based on the assumption of shaft shaking modes and irregular conditions, such as whirl, angle deflection, large amplitude vibration, and contact. The large scale test stand has adopted a high-capacity thrust bearing with an axial load of 5 tons or more; it can be applied to the development of machine elements for large size rotating machinery, such as large pump impellers, as well as the measurement of rotor-dynamic characteristics for such elements. The equipments provide test outcomes contributing to the minimization of disturbance caused by machine elements (development of turbomachinery with low vibration) and the improved reliability of turbomachinery (as enhancement of damping ellements). It is expected that the system will be further applied to the development of advanced magnetic bearing systems, including condition diagnostics and self-detecting technologies for rotating machinery.
